He served as Special Assistant to the Pastor and was instrumental in the acquisition and expansion program that saw St. Stephen Baptist Church flourish in the early 90's to present.

In January 1998 Reverend Kirk M. Bush was called to be the 13th Pastor of the Harrods Creek Baptist Church, and so the story begins......

Upon Rev. Bush's arrival, he found Harrods Creek Baptist Church (HCBC) a well-established congregation of dedicated believers who numbers had diminish steadily of the years. Rev. Bush accepted the charge of reviving the membership and restoring the ministry of Harrods Creek Baptist Church. Building on a foundation of Christian Education and active membership involvement, Rev. Bush has brought a new energy and vitality to Harrods Creek Baptist Church. Adopting the motto "The Church Where Everybody is Somebody, and Christ is All"; he has brought a God given vision to expand the physical presence and the spiritual outreach of the Church. Rev. Bush led the formation of HCCD, a nonprofit Community Development Corporation that has brought life to the mission and message of the church.

In March of 2001, HCBC broke ground on what would open in November 2002 as the Harrods Creek Salter-Dunbar Lifestyle Enrichment Center. This state of the art 2.1 Million facility houses a full court hardwood-floor gymnasium, exercise room, locker rooms with sauna, game room, industrial kitchen, concession stand, dining area, lounge, library, computer center and class room space. To the Glory of God, Pastor Bush has worked to increase Sunday School and Bible Study attendance exponentially. The membership has grown from less than 50 to 350 members. Rev. Bush has broken new ground in the ministry of HCBC by expanding the role of women in the church. Rev. Bush had welcomed the first female Associate Minister in the pulpit of Harrods Creek as well as appointing three women to the Board of Trustees and HCBC's first deaconess. The music department has been reborn in the Church with Rev. Bush actively encouraging growth of the various choirs and the addition of live musicians to the Harrods Creek worship experience. Ministries and Auxiliaries are thriving in the Bush era as more and more members head the call to "Get busy for the Lord". He has lead the congregation in a "Divine Restoration" of the sanctuary with new pews, upgraded sound and closed circuit television system, added two television monitors and improved the landscaping by paving the front parking lot.

A devoted paster, gifted preacher, and visionary leader are all accurate descriptions when speaking of Rev. Kirk M. Bush.
